SenderID registration Austria
Sender ID registration for Austria
Austria's regulatory authority RTR (Rundfunk und Telekom Regulierungs-GmbH) has introduced a mandatory SMS Sender ID Register, as part of an anti-fraud and anti-spoofing initiative. All alphanumeric (alpha) Sender IDs used to send SMS to Austrian recipients must be registered and approved through the eRTR portal.
Important dates
- 1 October 2026 – The regulation enters into force. From this date, SMS sent with an unregistered alpha Sender ID to Austrian numbers are blocked.
- A mandatory 14-day waiting period applies before a registered Sender ID becomes active. Please register well before the deadline so your sender is active in time.
How to register
Only operators have access to the RTR platform, so you cannot register directly — we submit the registration on your behalf. Complete the registration template and return it to us at support@smstools.com, and we will register your sender.
Information required for each Sender ID
- Company name
- Address
- Email address
- Registered service provider
- Sender ID
- Sender ID description/explanation (for example: "Omo" is a brand of Unilever)
Rules to keep in mind
- Generic Sender IDs such as "Info" or "Service" are not permitted.
- Sender IDs are case-sensitive: if "SAMSUNG" is registered, a variant like "SaMsunG" is blocked. Registering a different casing of an existing sender requires an additional explanation.
- Up to 40 Sender IDs per end customer within a six-month period.
- Once a Sender ID is registered by one provider, all other providers must enable its delivery. Unregistered Sender IDs are blocked.
- Registration is free — there are no additional charges.
Good to know
Registration is tied to your company and the Sender ID itself, regardless of which aggregator delivers the traffic. Our role is to forward your details to RTR; if RTR needs any clarification, they will contact your company directly using the contact information you provided.
