Extra Security: Setting up 2FA for your Smstools Account

At Smstools, we take the security of your account and data very seriously. To optimally protect your account against unauthorized access, we highly recommend enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). This adds an extra layer of security when logging in.

In this article, we explain how 2FA works within Smstools and how to easily set it up.

How does 2FA work by default?

When you activate 2FA, the method is set to email by default. This means that when you log in, you will automatically receive an email with a unique, temporary verification code.

Would you prefer a different method? You can optionally change this to SMS or an Authenticator app.

Step-by-Step Guide: Activating 2FA

Follow these steps to enable the extra security layer:

  1. Log in to your Smstools account.
  2. Navigate in the menu to Account -> Account Settings.
  3. Click on the Activate 2FA button.

You now have three choices: Email, SMS, or Authenticator.

Option 1: 2FA via SMS

If you choose verification via SMS, you will receive the login code directly on your mobile phone.

  • How does it work? The system will prompt you to enter your mobile number.
  • Please note: For every SMS verification code sent, 1 credit will be deducted from your balance.

If you want to save your SMS credits and use the fastest method, choose an authenticator app.

  • How does it work? A QR code will appear on your screen. Scan this QR code with an authenticator app of your choice, such as:
    • Google Authenticator
    • Microsoft Authenticator
    • 1Password
  • Important: Store the backup code safely. After scanning, these apps automatically generate a new 6-digit security code every 30 seconds, which you enter during login.

Tip: Make sure your team members activate 2FA as well to secure your company balance and database. If you have any questions about the setup, feel free to contact our support team.
