# How long is my data stored and where can I change this?

# Adjusting the retention period of SMS logs

Within Smstools, all incoming and outgoing SMS messages are automatically stored in logs. These logs include information such as sending times, delivery statuses and received messages.

**Default retention period**
By default, we store these SMS logs for 24 months. After this period, the data is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers.

# Step by step

Once you are logged into the Smstools system, go to the menu and select **Extra** and then **Security**.

Once you click on **Security**, you will arrive at the screen shown below. From there, go to the **GDPR Settings** tab. Here you can set your desired retention period.

**PLEASE NOTE**
Deleted data is **permanently removed** and **cannot be recovered**. We are also unable to restore this data once it has been deleted.
